Donating Paintings to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to share that I was asked to donate artwork to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation’s black tie fall fundraiser event called, “Carnivale Du Vin.” I immediately said yes for two reasons: The first reason is that I believe that young people’s education is a worthwhile cause. The Foundation works with local schools to fund culinary and hospitality programs for children and young people. And second, I’ve met Emeril Lagasse and he is a pretty cool cat.

My mother loves Emeril; watching his show always put a smile on her face especially years ago when she was having serious health issues. One day, when I was working at Whole Foods, I realized that the guy near my station who was lovingly squeezing the melons was actually Emeril! My heart raced. I abandoned my post at the charcuterie, leaped over the counter (wearing my Whole Foods chef coat and hat) and asked him to please autograph a paper napkin for my mom. Even though my behavior was completely inappropriate (I could have gotten fired for being so impulsive), Emeril was very gracious. After pumping my hand, he wrote his name on my napkin with a flourish, added a little "Bam!" on it, and gave it to me with his characteristic grin. What a classy guy! I presented that napkin to my mother with pride. So, for that reason and many others, I am honored to donate my work to the Emeril Lagasse Foundation.

Carnivale du Vin is on 11/08/14, a "Top Ten U.S. Charity Wine Auction" that has raised $18 million over nine years. It brings together the top names in food, wine and entertainment to benefit children's causes.
