Show Announcement-Twilight Time

Hi everyone,

I have a big new show coming up and I wanted to share some of my inspiration. I've always wanted to paint rhythmic, vibrant, pulsating night scenes like my hero, Vincent Van Gogh. In my efforts to emulate these painted night scenes I have discovered that the deepest night is drained of color, but at twilight there is an intensity to the light similar to Van Gogh's dramatic vision. When the warm light from the houses and streetlamps wrestles with the afterglow of the sun in the sky, you get pure magic. This fleeting energy generated by the struggle between night and day is what I tried to capture in the paintings for the show.

The show is called "Twilight Time "at Gallery 600 Julia, formerly Jean Bragg Gallery with an opening March 5, 6-9pm in New Orleans. I will have about 20 new paintings for the show, along with the up and coming artist Ben Hamburger, who also paints expressionistic twilight scenes. I hope to see you there, but if you can't make it I will be sending a link to the gallery website where you can see all of the paintings online.

What it is Really Like to Be Self-Employed Artist

I work from home as a self-employed artist and being self employed means you come face to face with your limitations.  Here is a performance review I might give myself with tongue in cheek.

Employee Name-Adam K. Hall

The employee named Adam K. Hall is a prima donna creative type who keeps calling off of work for family obligations.  He needs all manner of balms and coddling to be coaxed into work.  He requires time to exercise and eat regular meals in order to keep his mental state up to par.  It is surprising the monstrous amounts of caffeine needed to get him to work at his best.  He cannot listen to music for too long or he becomes agitated, so podcasts are required.  He can't even listen to the news in case there is an earthquake somewhere and he gets too upset to work.  I swear it is like working with a five year old with an easily bruised ego.

On the other hand he does seem to enjoy painting and he is somewhat productive.  In the future I believe we should steer away from moody artist types if we can, more time is spent keeping him on an even keel than actually working.
