"Evening Sky on Royal Street" 30" x 40" Original Oil on Canvas

I am donating the painting “Evening Sky on Royal Street” to the Young Leadership Council for their 2020, “Proud to Call it Home,” Virtual Gala, which ends October 30th.  The Young Leadership Council is a nonprofit civic organization that develops young professionals into leaders through community projects.

Evening Sky on Royal Street is an original oil-on-canvas painting depicting a couple walking down Royal Street holding a red umbrella at twilight, with clouds reflected in the street below.   I chose this painting for the Young Leadership Council’s “Proud to call it Home” gala because New Orleans is, to me, a quintessentially romantic city.  Not only is it “romantic” in the sense that it’s one of the few places where couples hold hands as they walk down the street, but it also jibes with the literary definition of romantic- marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized. My goal here was to convey the dreamlike, almost-magical quality of the heart of the Crescent City at night— I hope it makes it way to people who are, “ Proud to Call it Home.”
