Hi Everyone,
One silver lining to my pandemic year was the meaningful way I connected with customers who commissioned a painting of something special.
When someone commissions a painting of something that they care about, I feel a responsibility to honor their request to the best of my ability. At the start of the pandemic, I assumed that people would cancel their commissions--- but no one did. Instead requests for commissioned paintings increased, perhaps because people want a reminder of better times that they could look at whenever they needed to feel good . I think for me as an artist, and for my customers, we all sought to find a bright side as we tried to cope with a year that was unmoored from the life we knew. Even as the country became more divided and unsettled, I bonded with my customers over simple pleasures and little human kindnesses.
For me, this connection was crystallized during my conversations with customers who have been battered by the many hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast last year--- in addition to the pandemic. A customer from the Lake Charles area described her damage from Hurricane Laura, and then expressed her worry about me and my family in New Orleans. When Hurricane Zeta did hit New Orleans and we lost power, she offered to bring me water and supplies as she picked up her commissioned painting. That was really meaningful for me.
Commissions are a way for me to connect and to share camaraderie-Thank you!! If you would like to commission a painting please check out my Commissions Page on my website and contact me via email at [email protected].
