Since 1949 the Carousel Bar and Lounge in the Hotel Monteleone has been a favorite hotspot for celebrities, locals and tourists. As the city's only revolving bar it draws visitors in with its dazzling circus -like carousel and expertly mixed drinks. Featured in books by Hemingway and Tennessee Williams, I enjoyed going to the Carousel Bar after my wedding as we stayed at the Hotel Monteleone. Thankfully, the Bar rotates at a rate of one revolution every fifteen minutes so the spinning is ever so gentle. With this painting i tried to capture that bright colorful atmosphere and add a little bit of whimsy.
