Note-This was written about a week before Hurricane Ida. I wanted to share it now that the paintings are complete.
Hi Everyone,
It was going to be a difficult week. My wife was going out of town, a tough but necessary renovation project was about to begin, and I was trying to juggle childcare schedules with my (wonderful) in- laws. I was stressed and having trouble making decisions. And I was worried that my feelings would bleed into my painting practice.
I took a short walk to clear my head, ate some of my kid's school snacks (don't tell) and did some pushups, but when I stepped into the studio, I still felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. Reminding myself that "the show must go on" I put the up-tempo violinist, Lindsey Sterling, on Pandora radio, grabbed a big brush, took a deep breath and started to paint. The music seeped into my movements, impelling me to gesture with my arm instead of my wrist as I tried to capture the movement of blades of grass. I was surprised at how fast my cares melted away with that simple rhythmic movement. Why had my mood changed so fast?
