Mardi Gras Through a Camera Lens

My paintings are extremely colorful, loud and intense, and can sometimes be a bit on the dramatic side. If you have ever actually crossed my path in person you would see that I am fairly laid back and quiet. No one I have ever met would describe me as a party animal. So, every year I am a little mystified by Mardi Gras. I never really know how to roll.  Some years I can ride the wild party wave, and other years I feel like I am crashing underneath it.

As this year's parades went marching by I started thinking about how I can relate to Mardi Gras, and as I started taking pictures I decided to focus on the faces and gestures of the people that create Mardi Gras and make it what it is.

Here are a few of the photos that I've taken so far. I hope you like them.

A young drummer in a marching band in New Orleans

I am  invigorated by this guys exuberance! He might well be a painting very soon.

A trumpet player in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.

Gotta love the little guys playing the trumpet.

A Mardi Gras float uptown

This is a house just across the street from me as Mardi Gras floats came rolling by.

A young boy watching Mardi Gras from the backseat of New Orleans

Sometimes I feel like this little guy here.  Just plain worn out by the Mardi Gras.

A smiling woman on a Mardi Gras float

I was so charmed by her expression of joy!

I recently got a video of the xavier marching band here

just wow

Thanks for reading.

Adam

PS Happy Mardi Gras! I might try to take some photos of the king of Bacchus John C. Reilly
