Painting "Rainy Light"

Hi everyone,

I was super excited to be out one rainy morning because the reflections on State Street were achingly beautiful.  I had a picture perfect view of the golden reflection of a house and I rushed to grab my nice camera and I almost burst into tears when I saw that I had forgotten to put in an SD card in the camera!  I hoped that my measly cell phone could capture the intense way that the reflection glowed in the street.  When I came back with my camera the light had changed.

Here is the grainy cell phone photo I used-

A photograph of an uptown home illuminated by lights on a rainy morning

Once I started painting the house and the reflection I knew that there had to be a tension between the dark spaces and the flickers of light.  I struggled to find that balance and I almost destroyed the painting when it became muddled in detail.  I took a step back and simplified the dark background to save it.  Now, it is one of my favorite paintings and I feel an enormous sense of pride whenever I look at it.

Here is the painting in progress before it all came together-

And here is the final painting-

A finished painting by Adam Hall of an uptown home at night on a rainy morning.
